This study is the first report to compare the clinical features of IgG4-related kidney disease (RKD), IgG4-related retroperitoneal fibrosis (RPF), and IgG4-related disease involving other organs in Korea.
IgG4-RKD and RPF were more frequent in older patients and were often diagnosed incidentally compared with involvement of other organs.
IgG4-RKD was associated with hypocomplementemia and eosinophilia, whereas RPF was associated with male sex, older age, and higher serum IgG4 levels. Both conditions showed frequent relapse, necessitating prolonged maintenance therapy.
This study aimed to identify factors associated with osteoporosis and osteopenia and to evaluate their impact on mortality in older patients initiating hemodialysis.
Among 710 patients aged ≥70 years, osteoporosis and osteopenia were present in 39.0% and 19.6%, respectively, and osteoporosis was associated with female sex, a history of fractures, and lack of phosphate binder use.
Osteoporosis at the start of hemodialysis was independently associated with increased mortality, highlighting the importance of bone health management in this population.
