The aim of this study is to assess the effect of nutritional supplementation on patient safety indicators. This study was an experimental study with pre and post test design. Total of 85 adult men and women hemodialysis patients aged 19-60 years old with predominantly diabetics and hypertension causes of renal disease were given nutrition intervention during a period of 3 weeks. Anthropometric, biochemical, patient safety parameters (such as hypoglycemia, cramp, and shock), and quality of life measurements were recorded at baseline and after 3 weeks intervention. Repeated measures analysis were used to assess the effect of the nutrition intervention. This study found that the incidence of hypoglycemia, abdominal and foot cramp, as well as shock was happened among 30.6 %, 12.9 % and 16.5% respectively at baseline data. After the 3 weeks nutrition intervention and dietary counseling, the incidence of patient safety indicators reduced significantly to 3.5 % (hypoglycemia) and 2.4 % (shock) respectively. This study examine the impact of nutritional supplementation on patient safety parameters in hemodialysis patients are indicated.
