The Peritoneal Dialysis Outcomes and Practice Patterns Study (PDOPPS), an international prospective cohort study to follow PD patients to capture clinical practice patterns, is primarily aimed to identify modifiable practices associated with improvements in PD technique and patient survivals. Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, Thailand, the United Kingdom (UK), and the United States (US) participated in Phase I from 2014 to 2018 and Korea joined in Phase 2 from 2019. As of December 2020, the operational status is active only in Japan, Korea, Thailand, and the US. The total number of participating units and patients with baseline data worldwide were 256 and 11,960, respectively. In Korea, PDOPPS (phase 2) launched in July 2019, and the PD census was registered from October 2019. The anticipated end date of PDOPPS in Korea will be December 31st, 2021. As of July 2021, the total number of prevalent and incidence patients registered to the PDOPPSLink system from 20 centers across the country were 490 and 247 respectively. Collected data including a medical questionnaire and patient questionnaire at baseline, interval summary per 4 months, termination event, and infection event have been updated until July 2021. In this lecture, 1) several reports from PDOPPS showing international variations in practice pattern and potentially modifiable factors that may reduce risks for important outcomes and 2) ongoing progress of PDOPPS phase 2 in Korea will be presented.
