Localization of Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy Device Continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) is essential medical equipment for patients with severe acute kidney injury (AKI). However, Korea relies on foreign imports for all related equipment including machines and membranes. Therefore, there is a constant possibility that treatment of patients with severe AKI would become impossible due to a potential shortage of supply in the event of a catastrophic increase in severe AKI patients worldwide. In particular, the emergence of new infectious diseases such as SARS, MERS- CoV, and COVID-19 has resulted in a number of severe patients, increasing the importance of medical devices essential for treating these patients. According to a report by the International Society of Nephrology, the incidence of AKI in severe COVID-19 patients is up to 29% and a considerable proportion of the patients require CRRT. Through this project, we intend to overcome the potential shortage of CRRT supply, reduce medical costs thereby having a positive impact on insurance finance, and promote the development of the medical device industry through localization of CRRT devices. Furthermore, the successful completion of this project will also contribute to breaking into the overseas medical device markets, as a potential increase in severe AKI patients worldwide is predicted.
