During this lecture, signalling pathways of regulated necrosis will be briefly introduced. Ferroptosis, an iron catalyzed form of regulated necrosis, accounts for acute tubular necrosis as frequently seen during AKI. Following AKI, tubular regeneration and nephron loss may result. I will discuss the current data in support of either possibility.
