Objectives: Extending technique survival on patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis (PD) remains a major challenge in optimizing outcomes for PD patients. Understanding the characteristics and risk factors for PD related outcomes can develop the prevention strategies Methods: We performed a prospective longitudinal study with the Peritoneal Dialysis Outcomes and Practice Patterns Study (PDOPPS) Korea data. PDOPPS is an international cohort study of PD practices and outcomes. We analyzed whether there was a difference in all-cause mortality, technical failure, and PD related infection in PD patients according to characteristics of PD facility and patients with PDOPPS data. Results: Six hundred and sixty-six (n=606) PD patients were included in the present study. First, we analyzed whether there was a difference in the outcome of PD patients according to the characteristics of PD facility. There was no statistically significant difference in outcome depending on the number of PD patients registered with the facility, the number of PD nurses at center, and the location. Second, we analyzed whether there was a difference in outcome according to the characteristics of PD patients. Patients with diabetes mellitus showed higher event incidence than non-DM without statistical significance. When patients were classified according to the PD vintage, there was no statistically significant difference in outcome. Conclusions: There was no statistically significant difference in the incidence rate of outcome of PD patients according to the characteristics of the facility and patients. However, if the study continues by further expanding the follow-up period and number of subjects, this study may inform future guidelines in potentially setting lower technical survival on PD patients in Korea.
