Objectives: Platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) is one of many growth factors that regulate cell growth and division. PDGF plays a role in blood vessel formation, the growth of blood vessels from already-existing blood vessel tissue, mitogenesis. The primary complications of diabetes due to damage in small blood vessels include damage to the eyes, kidneys, and nerves. PDGF and DM both involve vascular complications. A relationship between Acute kidney injury (AKI) and PDGF was reported. But, there were few reports about serum level of Platelet derived growth factor-C in especially Korean patients with diabetic CKD, particularly. So, we measured the serum level of PDGF-C in patients with diabetic CKD patients   Methods: We divided diabetic CKD patients into three groups: CKD stage 3 (CKD 3, n=12), CKD stage 4 (CKD 4, n=11) and CKD stage 5 (CKD 5, n=10). We performed comparative analysis with serum level of PDGF-C in patients with DM CKD. We recognized levels of these several biomarkers through the multiplexing using Luminex® technology.   Results: Compared with the control group, serum PDGF-C levels were lower in CKD 4 or CKD 5 group (4209 in control; 2855 in CKD 4; 2830 in CKD5 pg/ml). Plasma PDGF-C level was significantly higher in the CKD 3 group compared to CKD 4, 5 group. However, there was no statistically significant difference between CKD stage 4 and stage 5 group.   Conclusions: The decreased serum levels of PDGF-C might be biomarker of CKD in patients with diabetic CKD patients.
