Objectives: To assess the culture results of peritonitis patients and its association with patient outcome in Cipto-Mangunkusumo National Hospital. Methods: This is a retrospective cohort study of all continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) patients diagnosed with PD-peritonitis based-on ISPD criteria, from January to December 2023. Results: Twenty-one patients who developed peritonitis during the study period were included. The PD-peritonitis incidence rate was 0.34 episodes per patient-year. We found 43% of patients were female, with the mean age of 39.67%. Median duration in PD was 2.6 years, with nephropathy diabetic (33%) and chronic glomerulonephritis (33%) were the two most common etiologies of their kidney failure. The most common comorbid is hypertension (95%). The most common microbiological findings was Staphylococcus epidermidis 33.3%, with a high culture negative rate (55%). Overall mortality rate was 19%. Conclusions: The incidence of PD peritonitis in our center is within acceptable limits however the negative culture rate is high. Any effort focused on preventing PD peritonitis as well as improving dialysate culture methods is a key task to improve our clinical outcomes.
