Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is a progressive complication of diabetes mellitus, leading to renal dysfunction. This study aims to evaluate the nephroprotective effects of 4’,7-Dihydroxy-3’-methoxyflavone (ALD-1), a bioactive flavone isolated from Albizzia lebbeck Benth. stem bark, against streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic nephropathy in rats. Diabetes was induced in rats using STZ, and experimental groups were divided into control, diabetic, and ALD-1-treated diabetic rats. Renal function markers, including blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and serum creatinine, were measured. Oxidative stress parameters and histopathological examinations of kidney tissues were also conducted to assess the protective role of ALD-1. ALD-1 treatment significantly reduced BUN and serum creatinine levels compared to the diabetic group, indicating improved renal function. Additionally, ALD-1 enhanced antioxidant enzyme activity and reduced oxidative stress markers in renal tissues. Histopathological analysis demonstrated reduced glomerular damage and improved renal architecture in ALD-1-treated rats. The findings suggest that ALD-1 exerts potent renoprotective effects in diabetic nephropathy by improving renal function, reducing oxidative stress, and preserving kidney histoarchitecture. These results highlight ALD-1 as a promising therapeutic agent for managing diabetic nephropathy.
