- CKD Prevalence in Sumatera Island, Indonesia: Basic Health Research (2013-2018)

Kidney disease includes various diseases and disorders affecting the kidney function. A chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a progressive and irreversible loss of renal function. CKD prevalence in Indonesia reached 0.2% in 2013 and increased to 0.38% in 2018. Chronic kidney failure is a non-communicable chronic disease whose incidence is increasing in developed and developing countries. This study aims to determine CKD prevalence in Sumatera Island, Indonesia. The data used was secondary data from Basic Health Research from 2013 to 2018. This research was an observational using a cross-sectional design. The samples were adolescents ≥ 15 years old with CKD diagnosed by a doctor. There are 10 provinces in Sumatera Island, those are Aceh, North Sumatera, West Sumatera, Riau, Jambi, South Sumatera, Bengkulu, Lampung, Bangka Belitung, and Riau Islands. In 2013, CKD prevalence in Aceh was 0.4%, North Sumatera 0.2%, West Sumatera 0.2%, Riau 0,1%, Jambi 0.2%, South Sumatera 0.1%, Bengkulu 0.2%, Lampung 0.3%, Bangka Belitung 0.1% and Riau Islands 0.1%. In 2018, the prevalence was 0.49% in Aceh, North Sumatera 0.33%, West Sumatera 0.40%, Riau 0.26%, Jambi 0.32%, South Sumatera 0.27%, Bengkulu 0.43%, Lampung 0.39%, Bangka Belitung 0.29%, and Riau Islands 0.32%. The highest CKD prevalence was in Aceh in 2013 (0.4%) and 2018 (0.49%). CKD prevalence in the period of 5 years (2013-2018) among 10 provinces in Sumatera Island has increased. It is recommended to Primary Health Center as a service center at the primary level in the community should be able to provide health education for the prevention of CKD on an ongoing basis so that the degree of public health will increase.
